Program Title: Sexually Informed Couples Therapy: Marital Satisfaction, Intimacy, Desire Discrepancy, and Recovery from Infidelity Learning Level: Intermediate to Advanced Course Description: Couples research shows us that 80% of relationship problems have as a primary root sexual issues and conversely, 80% of sexual difficulties or dysfunctions have primary relationship maladjusts. Unfortunately, few couple’s therapy and counseling programs teach the necessary knowledge base to equip the therapist to have the depth of sexual knowledge in treating their concerns. This seminar offered by by a certified sex therapist and clinical sexologist shares the insights necessary to understand how sexuality impacts relationships. Both positively, through passion, intimacy and commitment; as well as negatively through desire discrepancies, and affairs. Comprehensive clinical implications and strategies for treating couples recovering from infidelity will also be shared. Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this course participants will be able to: • Identify the intrapersonal and interpersonal struggles a couple may experience in their relationship • Evaluate the type(s) of grief a person may experience during the course of a relationship and how those might impact their marital intimacy, desires, or infidelity • Evaluate a couple’s sexual desire and discrepancy • Describe the different types of infidelity that can exist in a relationship • Correctly diagnose and treat Out of Control Sexual Behaviors “Sexual Addiction” • Describe an efficient and effective sexually informed couple’s therapy treatment process • Identify and carryout an evidence-based recovery from infidelity approach
